  • Just get something like a shop vac hose adapter with mounting holes and bolt it to a small thin wood plate and use steel spring clamps to hold that assembly into place on the front of the airbox.  No need to remove the carb or the airbox, just the lower cowl.  I made one cheap years ago and have it stashed in the hangar and have used in on n…[Read more]

  • You’ll get varying opinions, but I think they are mostly that – including mine.  There are very few who have actually flown both on the same engine for direct comparison and those who do are usually eager to justify the money they spent.

I’m upgrading my O-470-U to a PPONK O-470-50 and my current 2 blade McCauley isn’t compatible so I’m in the…[Read more]

  • My favorite section is Moab-Canyonlands-CO River-Lake Powell-Page-Marble Canyon-Grand Canyon-Lake Mead-Las Vegas (or vice versa heading east), I’ve flown that many times.  I’ve flown more west of the Rockies than east of them, but in my opinion, east of the Rockies is boring.  Not as much to see from the air unless you fly low.  Badlands might be…[Read more]

  • I added an IFD-540 and AXP-340 to my 182Q and I’m happy with them.

I tested out the IFD and GTN nearly side by side at the trade shows and liked the IFD much better.  I like the menu logic better, hybrid touch/buttons, multiple destinations/approaches, bluetooth keyboard.  That being said Garmin is closing the gap and has the resources improve t…[Read more]

  • Thanks John, I appreciate the feedback.

  • Well yes and no, this post will probably work, but I duplicated the bug when I tried to edit my post several times and the post was deleted. I think that trying to retype the post that was deleted is what caused the duplicate problem. I never had a problem with quoting, the problem was with a post that was deleted that included a quote.

  • Depending on what I’m trying to say, after I hit quote and I’m typing in the reply box, I’ll copy the quote tags so that I can parse out specific parts of a post I’m trying to talk about. Perhaps that makes it look like I used the block quote function, but I haven’t used any of the buttons in the reply banner in any of my posts here yet.

  • Yes, I’m using the quote link in the blue banner next to reply.

  • test test test test test test test

    Hmm, seems to be intermittent.

Dan the issue with quoting was that it was telling me that I was creating a duplicate post after the original one disappeared and I tried to re-quote him as I previously had. That is why I made a new post and just said I had tried to quote him. The original post I made did the…[Read more]

  • Just did it again. I edited a post, then checked the “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” and the post disappeared.

  • I had tried all of that, none of it worked.

  • Argh, I tried to edit a post and now it disappeared.  When I make a new one it tells me it’s a duplicate.  I’ll try typing it into this one to see if it sticks.  John, I was trying to quote from your original post.

If you don’t mind, how much did the autopilot cost combined?  I’ve got an IFD-540 with a crappy cessna autopilot and I’m thinking abo…[Read more]

  • I never got a notice of the new website address, I was patiently waiting for months trying once and a while for the old address to change and let me in.  Yesterday I emailed asking if there was an update and got a nice response with the new address and new password.  I guess I should have asked earlier…

  • Without experience in other 182s, I can’t be definitive, but my 79 182Q has pretty significant recesses in the headliner over both of the front seats.  I’m 6’4″ and have the seat set all of the way up for better visibility over the panel.  I’m not sure what the throw on the vertical adjustment is, but it is several inches.  I rarely notice my…[Read more]
